The first case in Southeast Asian port! PSA recovers recycled refrigerant gas

Publish Time: 2022-05-13     Origin: Site

Recently, the Port of Singapore Group and marine operator Ocean Network Express have successfully recovered and recycled refrigerant gas, making it the first port in Southeast Asia to conduct a refrigerant gas recovery and reuse test.

According to a statement issued by the Port of Singapore Group on May 10, it recovered refrigerant gas in the reefer containers of Ocean Network Shipping Company. Recirculating refrigerant gas can reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 4,000 kilograms per refrigerated container, equivalent to nearly a year of emissions from an average car.

Refrigerant gases, or hydrofluorocarbons, are potent greenhouse gases that contribute to climate change. In order to establish a sustainable supply chain, the Port of Singapore Group took the lead in proposing to recycle and reuse the refrigerant gas emitted from reefer containers. After collecting these gases, the group will clean up, reprocess and certify them before they are reused and added to the reefer containers. .

Ocean Connected Shipping participated in the test to help confirm the quality of the refrigerant gas and was the first company to use recycled refrigerant gas.

PSA also intends to extend this green initiative to other shipping companies and partners, which will also collect commonly used refrigerant gas during maintenance and repair of reefers.
