From automotive air conditioners to household inverter refrigerants, and from cold storage transport to commercial VRF systems—every piece of equipment that “blows cold air” around you relies on first-, second-, and third-generation refrigerants behind the scenes. The latest pricing dashboard shows that the mainstream varieties of third-generation refrigerants are almost all firmly above the 60,000 RMB/ton mark, with R32 and R134a even charging toward 66,000 RMB/ton.
The “Big Three” of Third-Generation Refrigerants: R32, R134a, and R125 Hit Record Highs
R32 is the core refrigerant in today’s home inverter air conditioners. On June 9, a major manufacturer in Zhejiang quoted 65,500 RMB/ton (same price for domestic and international sales). Even though the mainstream trading range has adjusted down to 62,700–64,000 RMB/ton, prices have still doubled compared to the same period last year.
R134a is also holding strong. As the go-to refrigerant for automotive air conditioners and cold chain maintenance, it has recently benefited from the demand for new energy vehicle thermal management and peak summer needs, with prices firmly standing at 62,000–63,000 RMB/ton. On June 8, the average price monitored by Business Society was 62,333.33 RMB/ton, with a weekly increase of +1.36%, making it the “resilient star” in the fluorine chemicals sector last week.
Although R125’s operating rate remains at only around 40%, manufacturers in East China have directly raised their offer to 60,000 RMB/ton. Tight supply of blending raw materials and limited domestic resources have driven R125 up by approximately 7,500 RMB/ton since the beginning of the year.
R410A (a blend of R32 and R125), the mainstay for commercial air conditioners and VRF systems, has followed the upward trend: a major manufacturer in Zhejiang quoted 59,500 RMB/ton, while Dongyang Guang of Ruyuan quoted 60,000 RMB/ton, marking a definitive exit from the lower-to-mid 50,000 RMB/ton range.
