Steps and Methods for Filling Refrigerant in Automobile Air Conditioner

Everyone has faced the situation that the car air conditioner does not have refrigerant. Unless you regularly maintain the air conditioner system, one day you will find that the cooling effect of the car air conditioner system decreases, though the car air conditioner has no problems, then you should consider adding more refrigerant gas.  Under normal circumstances, car air conditioning refrigerant will not fail, it has only one possibility, that is, leakage. Every car will have a slight refrigerant leak. There is no rule to know when, so I recommend checking it every two years.


 How to determine whether the air conditioner refrigerant is insufficient or too low?


 One of the simpler methods is to use the air conditioner drying bottle or the observation hole on the pipeline to judge. After starting the engine, turn on the air conditioner to cool, and turn on the blower to the maximum. If bubbles can be seen from the observation hole, it means that the refrigerant is insufficient; If you can't see it, and there is no air-conditioning at the air outlet, it means that the refrigerant has leaked seriously. Also, after turning off the engine, if there are no air bubbles in the sight glass, there may be too much refrigerant.


 There are two ways to charge refrigerant from the high pressure end and the low pressure end. The two methods are also very different due to the different states of the refrigerant. The high-pressure end is filled with liquid refrigerant, which is suitable for filling after leak detection and vacuuming. Note that this method must not open the compressor, the engine is stopped, and the refrigerant tank is required to be inverted. The other method is to add the low-pressure end. Note that the filling is gas, which is characterized by a slow filling speed, which is usually suitable for use in the case of supplementary refrigerant.


 Steps of filling refrigerant at high pressure side:


 1. When the system is evacuated, close the high and low pressure manual valves on the manifold pressure gauge.

2. Connect one end of the intermediate hose to the connector of the refrigerant tank injection valve. Open the refrigerant tank opening valve, then unscrew the nut at the end of the manifold gauge hose, allow the gas to escape for a few minutes, and then tighten the nut.

3. Unscrew the high-pressure side manual valve to the fully open position, and turn the refrigerant tank upside down.

 4. Inject a specified amount of liquid refrigerant from the high pressure side. Close the refrigerant tank fill valve and the high-pressure manual valve on the manifold pressure gauge, then remove the gauge. When the system is filled with refrigerant from the high pressure side, the engine is not started (compressor stops), do not unscrew the low pressure manual valve on the manifold pressure gauge to prevent hydraulic shock.


 Refrigerant filling method at low pressure side:


 1. First connect the manifold pressure gauge with the compressor and the refrigeration tank

2. Open the refrigerant tank, loosen the nut of the middle injection hose on the manifold pressure gauge, until you hear the sound of refrigerant vapor flowing, then tighten the nut to discharge the air injected into the hose.

 3. Open the low pressure manual valve to let the refrigerant enter the refrigeration system. When the pressure value of the system reaches 0.4MPa, close the low-pressure manual valve.

 4. Start the engine, turn on the air conditioner switch, and adjust both the blower switch and the temperature control switch to the maximum.

 5. Open the manual valve on the manifold pressure gauge to let the refrigerant continue to enter the refrigeration system until the filling amount reaches the specified value.

 6. After adding the specified amount of refrigerant to the system, observe from the sight glass, if there is no air bubbles and no excess refrigerant, then adjust the engine speed to 2000r/min, and open the blower air volume to the highest level. If the low pressure side pressure in the system is 0.147~0.192MPa on the low pressure side, then 1.37~1.67MPa on the high pressure side.


 Finally, there is an operating skill. After the fluorine filling is completed, close the low-pressure manual valve on the manifold pressure gauge, close the injection valve installed on the refrigerant tank, stop the engine, and remove the manifold pressure gauge from the compressor. Move quickly when unloading, so as to avoid excessive refrigerant leakage.
