R290 - Basic Information | |
Chemical Name | Propane R290 |
CAS | 74-98-6 |
EINECS | 200-827-9 |
Chemical Formula | C3H8 |
Molecular Weight | 44.0962 |
InChI | InChI=1/C3H8/c1-3-2/h3H2,1-2H3 |
Water Soluble | Insoluble |
Melting Point | -187.678℃ |
Boiling Point | -42.06°C |
Appearance | Colorless and Odorless |
Application | High-purity grade R290 is used as a temperature-sensing working medium, and superior and first-grade R290 can be used as refrigerant to replace R22, which is compatible with the original system and lubricating oil. |
Refrigerant R290, namely propane, is a natural hydrocarbon refrigerant that can be obtained directly from liquefied gas. Compared with the artificial synthetic refrigerant such as Freon, the molecule of the natural working medium R290 does not contain chlorine atoms, so the ODP value is zero, and it does not have a damaging effect on the ozone layer. In addition, R290 has a GWP value close to 0 compared with HFC substances that also have no damaging effect on the ozone layer, and has no effect on the greenhouse effect. Currently in Germany R290 has been used in domestic water heaters and air conditioning systems.
Although R290 has the above advantages, its "flammable and explosive" shortcomings are currently the biggest obstacle to its large-scale promotion. When mixed with air, R290 can form explosive mixtures, which may burn and explode when exposed to heat sources and open flames. The means to improve the safety of R290 include reducing the filling amount, isolating the ignition source, preventing refrigerant leakage, and improving the safety prevention and control ability after leakage.
